Photos: Behind the Scenes - Amgen Tour of California, Stage One

Stage One was cancelled due to hazardous weather conditions at the Amgen Tour of California. As many riders commented, Team RadioShack reiterates…while the organizer’s decision to not race was the right choice, the hardest part was disappointing the hoards of fans that showed up for the stage. As team staff drove the course to the finish before the news tricked to fans, we stopped and visited with hundreds of people lining the course. Rain, snow or shine, they were bundled up and full of energy, cheering on their favorite teams (some even grilling hot dogs and hamburgers). This was an encouraging and incredibly warm welcome to California for the teams, despite the freezing temperatures.
Travelling near or far, young or old, no matter what team you were cheering for, thanks to each and everyone who came out today to support cycling and the Amgen Tour of California. We're ready to race…and we won’t disappoint!

A few inches of snow have fallen over night, but teams file to breakfast on schedule.

Snowfall continued throughout the morning.

Teams prepared for the stage like any other, uncertain what the race organizers final decision would be.

Most riders attention was consumed with the weather radars. Pictured here: Ben King (left) and Matthew Busche (right).

Organizers were watching closely to decide whether to start or not.

Before riders hit the course, word has it six motos crashed on the icy roads. Thankfully, no one was injured.

What's it going to be boys?
