Now, here’s a stage that gets interesting at the end as the peloton faces two ascents of Willunga Hill. A long circuit route to the south of Adelaide, the peloton will battle the 3km 7.6 percent average grade climb starting at 106km and then again at 129km.  The climb is probably not long enough to stop the strongest men in the race, but will certainly be the site of many fireworks especially on the final time up.  Look for someone like Valverde to light it up on the way to the line.

About Willunga
Located 30 miles from Adelaide, the town of Willunga derives its name from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘the locality of green trees’ (some claim the translation is false and a more accurate translation is ‘black duck’). First surveyed and purchased by Edward Moore in 1839, Willunga later came into prominence due to the discovery of slate and wheat.

The Port of Willunga became a central shipping industry due to the mass popularity of slate from the area. The Port is more widely known as the site of the “Star of Greece” wreckage, the remains of which showing the charm and warmth of the town. Today, the town is known for its quiet beaches and beachside restaurants.
