About Stage 13
By Chris Brewer
A little bit of relief on the roads to Revel, a lumpy stage but not unbearable.  A day for the sprinters – oh by the way, the Pyrenees start tomorrow!

About Rodez
Rodez begins a plain stage of the Tour, the last for a number of days. This is the second time Rodez, the capital of the Aveyron department of southern France, has been a stage town for the Tour.

Rodez's rich history of 2,000 years is marked by a rivalry between its Counts and Bishops. One of the bishops involved was responsible for the construction of the Rodez Notre-Dame cathedral. The cathedral's bell tower stands at 87 meters, and the architecture of the building itself is a mix of styles from the 13th to 17th centuries. Also in the town of Rodez is the Fenaille Museum of Archaeology and History, which houses a collection of French menhir statues from almost 5,000 years ago, and the Denys Puech Museum of modern and contemporary art. Another town attraction is the Haras National Stud Farm, where ten different breeds of horses are bred and boarded.

About Revel
This is the ninth time that the royal bastide (a medieval fortified town) of Revel has been a stage town for the Tour. Revel, located near the Black Mountain regional park in Southern France, is considered a bastide due to its architecture, particularly its 14th century belfry, central covered-market square and timber-framed medieval houses.

Revel has been given the nickname of the "Arts and Crafts Town" because of its abundance of craftsmen, who specialize in many areas, such as cabinet making, polishing, engraving and upholstering. Indeed, there is a Wood and Veneer museum in the town, as well as a training center for arts and crafts. Revel is also known for its man-made Saint-Ferreol Lake, built in the 17th century. The lake feeds into the Canal du Midi, a technological achievement which links the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
