About Stage 8
By Chris Brewer
Today’s stage will tell a lot about what’s going to happen at the Tour de France.  It’s a classic long roll out to the base of the critical final section.  Today’s finale features a Cat 1 ascent, down to a 3, then up to a true Cat 1 summit finish atop Morzine-Avoriaz.  Some riders will be hunting for a stage win, others will have to show their cards that their ready and able to contest for overall victory.  There’s a saying in cycling: the climbs don’t lie.

About Morzine-Avoriaz
The Morzine-Avoriaz area has served as a stage town for the tour a staggering 23 times. Morzine is situated between Lake Leman and Mont-Blanc, near the Swiss border, and Avoriaz is located at an altitude of 1,800 meters within the Morzine municipality. The resort in Avoriaz was built in the years following the 1960 Winter Olympics. It is a car-free, pedestrian-only resort and, even after being open for over 40 years, is considered an ecological pioneer.

During the winter months, families often visit Avoriaz to partake in skiing, snow-shoe hikes and hang-gliding. When the snow melts for the summer, visitors enjoy hiking, mountain biking, Nordic walking and white-water rafting.
