At a Glance

Alain Gallopin is the typical example of the theory that the best team directors were never the best riders. Alain was only a professional rider for one year (in 1982 with SEM-France Loire). He finished 41st in Paris-Roubaix. As an amateur rider, he won Paris-Vailly and Paris-Mantes in 1981 and was national champion (1981) in team-time trial. Alain made his career afterwards. He was the first French Team Director directing an American team (Mercury). Alain started his career as Sports Director with the Catavana team (1994). Afterwards, he worked for La Française des Jeux (1998-2000), Mercury (2001), Coast (2002), Coast/Bianchi (2003), CSC (2004-2007) and Astana (2008-2009). Alain is the man of tactics, having an eye for all details.
