At a Glance
José will make his first appearance as a sports director with Team RadioShack. Johan Bruyneel chose him, as he knew José very well as a rider in his US Postal and Discovery Channel period. José Azevedo was instrumental in two Tour de France victories of Lance Armstrong (2004 and 2005). In 2004, José managed to combine his teammate work with a fifth overall place in the Tour de France. José, three-time national time trial champion, was a perfect stage race rider. He was a good time trial rider, as well as a climber. In his three seasons as a Bruyneel-Demol rider, he showed to be an intelligent rider, a useful skill for a later career as sports director. José knows the current peloton very well. He retired as a professional rider in 2008.
