There are two sides to Global Diabetic Awareness Communities. The organizational side and the personal side. This organization grew out of a start-up called Diabetic L.I.F.E. WON. The acronym L.I.F.E. stands for Lessons In Future Excellence which is based on a book I wrote years ago. Since then I have rewritten the book for diabetics struggling with life. It is actually a workbook that goes along with a conversation program. Anyway from all of this grew Global Diabetic Awareness Communities When it began we had no idea how much impact we would have in the future. We started with very little if no money at all, just enough to pay for internet and servers. From there it is all attitude and work. Without Patti my wife egging me on at the very beginning none of this would be here today. Then there are the volunteers like Tom and Doretta and Phil that help out along the way. Global Diabetic Awareness Communities and all of the projects and initiatives under it are proving to be the most extensive grassroots initiative for global diabetic awareness ever seen in this century. Taking a lesson from the 70's in an era that I was active and reworking it with online support and offline values we will build a network of grassroots volunteers all over the world bringing the message of diabetic awareness and education. This has become a personal battle for me as I am a diabetic type 1.5 LADA, and live daily with what we all go through. The thing is my attitude is this, everyday is better and everyday I will fight to make it better. There isn't a day that goes by that I am not thankful for everything I have. Along with diabetes I also have heart disease and have lost over 45% of my heart muscle through heart attacks and poor fitness and nutrition. So my battle lives on to find the right mix of everything and through LIVESTRONG.COM and what we offer I believe I have found the right mix. I hope to be able to share all of this with you over the many years we will be involved here with LIVESTRONG.COM and all of you. Be Well Mark and Patti
