Softball is an American sport resembling traditional baseball (often called hardball) that was developed in 1887 by George Hancock. Played by two teams for 7 to 9 innings, softball can be played as fast pitch, modified pitch, slow pitch and Chicago slow pitch. Each type of softball emphasizes unique aspects of the game that requires flexibility, muscular strength, good hand to eye coordination and superior timing.
