No, there really are 1600 calories in a cup of butter. 1 tablespoon = 100 calories and there are 16 tablespoons in a cup. I'm not sure where sapalot got the extra 28 calories but this is fairly correct :(

I signed up to try this site but unfortunately the data is very unpredictable. I suppose it's all user-entered...? Not really a good idea. Butter has 100 calories per tablespoon, not 120 calories per half tablespoon. Nearly all fats have about 100 calories per tablespoon: oil, peanut butter, mayonnaise, butter, salad dressing, etc. If I have to be knowledgeable about food before I can use the site, it rather defeats the purpose, doesn't it? =) Oh well.

Something wrong with this calorie count

1 stick of butter = 8 Tbsp = 113g
Other butter listings show: 1 pat of butter = 5g is 36 calories (many listings show this)
113g / 8 Tbsp = 14.125 grams per tablespoon
14.125g / 5g = 2.825 pats per tablespoon
2.825 * 36 calories = 101.7 calories per tablespoon
this measurement checks out in comparison to the majority of other butter listings on the website.

this is not correct!

54% of your daily calcium in 1 Tbsp of butter?
This can't be right can it???
debaked November 6
This item had it's serving size changed (and approved!!??) without adjusting any of the attributes (calories, etc), from 1 tbsp to 1/2 tbsp. I have a pending edit to change it back to 1 tbsp, but WHY do moderators approve edits like this? This kind of random edit approval completely degrades my confidence in the food database, knowing that any one of the foods I use can get a random edit like this approved.

How can something get 101.5% of its calories from fat? That doesn't make any sense.

Who eats a cup of butter at a sitting? This entry should be deleted. See this one instead:

I don't think there is 54% of your calcium daily value in 1 tbsp of butter. Someone should correct this.
wwwego March 9
One tbsp of butter does not have 54% of your RDA for Calcium.

For a more correct calorie count, search for "sweet cream butter," which will give numerous results with a 100 cal per 1 tbsp count.

Unless this is a butter substitute of some kind, I think the caloric content is wrong

Uh, butter does not have 54% of the RDA for calcium! This is messing up my calcium count. Nutritiondata.com says this serving has 3.4 mg of calcium which is 0%. And this info is supposed to be verified by Livestrong........

This is salted butter. It is better to use unsalted butter for most cooking and if you are watching your sodium.

How do I put in just a portion of the food. I only ate less than 1 teaspoon...but portion is for 1TBS.

Butter is one of the tastiest foods every invented! I would eat it on everything if the amount of calories wouldn't make me balloon!

Butter is, naturally, a tasty fat source. In small amounts, it's perfect for greasing a pan for frying because it's mostly stable saturated fats that won't become rancid and cause health problems like the polyunsaturates such as vegetable oil. Use it (or coconut oil, or other natural satured fats) for temperatures too hot to use olive oil, peanut oil, etc.
