Thyroid Diet

Goiter & Walnuts

A goiter is a swelling of the thyroid gland, which is in the front part of your lower neck. A goiter can become large enough to notice visually and sometimes needs emergency medical treatment because it can inhibit swallowing and talking. Goiters are usually associated with reduced thyroid function, but not always. Walnuts are considered a nutritious and healthy food, but they can suppress thyroid activity and interfere with some medications used for hypothyroidism. Consult with your doctor if you notice unusual swelling in your neck.
