I'm Jeremy Shore for livestrong.com and this is dumbbell exercises for kids. David Jack, an Advisor to the International Youth and Conditioning Association recommends three safe and effective dumbbell exercises for training kids. These natural movement patterns encourage proper posture, body awareness, starting strength and overall athleticism. Helping a young athlete perform a deadlift, farmer's walk and goblet split squat properly will give them a great foundation to excel in life and sport. So, the first exercise is going to be a single dumbbell deadlift. From here, we're going to take a wide stance slightly turning the toes out, holding your dumbbell underneath the top bell with straight arms. Chest is up, abs are in, you're going to lower yourself down to the starting position here for the deadlift. From here, we're going to drive through the floor, keeping the chest up and squeezing the gluts at the top with one powerful movement. Slowly lower to the floor and drive through the floor, finish tall, squeezing the gluts. Lower and drive up. From there, we're going to move into a farmer's walk. So, grab two dumbbells, one on each hand and stand nice and tall, really good posture on this. Come up on your toes, keeping your chest up, try not to move too much side to side, stay up on your toes. I'm going to walk in a big circle. Staying up on the toes, keeping the body nice and tall. Then, we'll finish with a goblet split squat. Take the dumbbell under the top part, hands up underneath up against the chest, getting into a split stance. From here,we'll lower the back knee, keeping our chest up and abs in down towards the ground. And from there, we'll drive to the front foot to come back to that starting position. We'll lower down slowly and drive through. Lower slowly and drive through. We'll do that for the given amount of reps and then we'll switch sides, do the same thing on the other side. Lowering that trail knee, keeping that chest up and driving through that front foot. Lower and drive through. I'm Jeremy Shore for livestrong.com, and this has been dumbbell exercises for kids.
