Hi, my name is Shane Freels with livestrong.com. Today, we're going to go over flexibility exercises for kids. So some basic things that you can get any kid to do is what I call active flexibility. Flexibility is using that range of motion and activating it and getting muscle tissue to be fired up and getting blood flow because then that will lengthen the tissue as it warms up. So one of the first things that we start out with is just a high knee pull, you can do these walking, you can do them standing in place, it's kind of up to you, but it's not like you're trying to overly pull the knee to the chest, you're just trying to pull it up, get a nice easy stretch, okay? The next one is going to be what we call a quad pull, pull the leg up behind and reach with the opposite hand and go up to your toe, switch, pull the leg up behind, reach out to the toe and you're just alternating back and forth, okay? Another one is what I really like too is, it's great for the hips, lot of kids, you know the tight hips as they get older, even adults, here's a great one. You grab the shin, I call it a shin pull, but you don't just grab the shin you kind of put a hand underneath the knee at the same time and you're trying to get it parallel across the body so it's a nice easy lift, feel the stretch through the hip and back down and then alternate, grab and pull, stretch, here, stretch, here and stretch, okay? Nice easy basic stretch for the hips. Now let's take our feet out wide and you're going to shift your weight from side to side stretching the inner thighs, sitting back on your heal, getting good range of motion, notice I'm not too wide, but I'm just within, just outside my shoulder width and I'm keeping my body weight all over my knee and just behind my toe, Okay? And I'm just sitting going side to side, nice and easy, stretching those inner thighs, notice I'm not just sitting and holding, I'm moving, active range of motion, keeping the blood flow happening. My name was Shane Freels, and we just showed you several good flexibility exercises for kids. Use them well and have a great day.
