Hi, I'm Shane Freels with LIVESTRONG.com. Today, we're going to show you several exercises for a shoulder with a labral tear but the main thing to remember but the main thing to remember is that your shoulder is a ball and socket joint and what you are trying to do is strengthen that area back together with all the muscle tissues around it and the tendons that are inside. The first exercise we're going to show you is the range of motion exercise and it's just working without resistance, just your body weight and doing circles, letting that ball and socket really get back to the range of motion, teaching the shoulder how to function again and again going back and forth, working both directions of the circle. Once you get into the therapy process where you can add more weight and go to using a one, then two, then, three, then four pound weight, doing the exact same thing. The next exercise I'm going to show you is another range of motion exercise, it's just called the walk. I'm going to start from what we call a 90 degree position here and I'm just going to walk my fingers up trying to get full extension as high as I can in that shoulder, keeping it just as far as I can in line with my body and I'll do it again and just work that range of motion back and forth in the shoulder. Now I'm going to show you several good strengthening exercises for a shoulder with a labral tear. The key is you don't want to do anything overhead. So anything from here up we don't want to, we want to avoid anything like that. So let's keep it from here down. What I'm going to show you is what I call the YTI. Now then what that looks like is a shoulder raise into a wide Y position, back down to your side into what I call a T position, back down to your side to an I position. Another great way to get your shoulder back into a functioning ability for you called external rotation. The key is I'm trying to keep my elbow in to my side and I don't want to let my wrist really bend out. I want to keep that wrist as straight as I can, keep that elbow in tight and let all the range of motion happen right here in the shoulders. I'm Shane Freels. We just showed you several good exercises for a shoulder with a labral tear. I hope you utilize them well. Have an amazing day.
