Hey, everybody, I'm Chef Mareya, The Fit Foody. Today, I want to share a little bit about one of my favorite things to cook with which is hot peppers. So, we're going to turn up the heat in this kitchen today. The great thing about hot peppers is not only do they add enormous flavor to your dishes with very little calories, they are an amazing source of nutrients. Vitamin A, Vitamin C, different immunity boosting properties that actually improve your health, can even help with cancer prevention and treatment. Now, one of those really important naturally occurring chemicals is called capsaicin. And it's basically a power house to help build your strength and immunity, and your ability to fight disease. So, I highly recommend trying to add that into your diet as much as possible. Now, just half a cup of peppers can deliver 300 percent of your recommended daily allowance of Vitamin C. So, just half a cup goes a long way. Now, I've got a number of different types of peppers here. I've got the, the Habanero which is the hottest of the hot. Then, I've got some Jalapenos here which are a little bit more mild but still hot. And then, the Anaheims which are on the mild side. But, if you want to tone down the heat and still enjoy all of the benefits of a hot pepper, just take your knife and run it on the inside and slice those seeds out because that's really where the hottest activity happens; right there and then you can just chop it up and incorporate it into your dishes. I also love cooking with the ground chili spices. I've got some chili pepper here and chili powder and that's a great way to temper the heat as well. Now, if you're congested, this is a trick that my grandma taught me when I was little. She would take some of the Cayenne pepper, add it to some boiling water with a little bit of lemon and just a hint of honey; you could add in Stevia; and it would just clear any cold that I had. It will just blow it right out of my mind. So, next time you have a cold, give it a try and see what you think. Chili peppers, hot peppers, great staple to have in your kitchen. I'm Chef Mareya, The Fit Foody and I hope to see you really soon. Lots of great healthy information here, so don't go away.
