Hi, you guys, I'm Carly Sunae here at Panther Energy Total Fitness. So, today, we're going to talk about how to do a proper squat technique to avoid shoulder injury. Now, usually, typically to do it right, you want to start with a lightweight. But I'm just going to use a bar, it's kind of a lightweight right? So, I'm going to grab this barbell, alright; hold on one second, let get me into position; put it up and I'm going to place this above my scapula and above my shoulder blades, so it's not going to be on my neck. Alright. So, it's going to rest kind of on your traps, or on the top of your trap muscles. Alright. Your arms are just going to hold it in place to balance it out. I'm going to shoulder width apart, alright and I'm going to keep my chest and shoulders back. I think about squeezing my shoulder blades together, so, squeeze the shoulder blades together and sit back into a squat and press up. Now, improper form will look like this, okay. I don't even want to do that 'cause I don't want to hurt myself. See how it's different? You can put all that weight forward and you're going to put the bar on your neck and that is you don't want to do that and ruin up your spine. So, weight's on your traps, squeeze your shoulder blades together, chest and shoulders open, almost stick it out, sit your butt back and up. Okay. So, that's working the barbell. Now, if you don't want weights up here, in your sensitive area, you can also do squats with dumbbells. Okay. Grab some dumbbells, weight to the side, a lot easier to your spine, but still the same technique, okay. So, you're going to sit back, shoulder blades squeezed together, chest shoulders open, sit your butt back, squat down , weights to the side, squeeze through and press up. Improper form will be this. Okay. Doesn't look very good, huh? So, once again, to do it right, to avoid shoulder injury, try to keep your back engaged, okay, shoulders are up, chest is open, shoulder blades together and then squat back into your butt. So, that's just a tip to help you avoid shoulder injury when you're doing squat exercises. Thanks again, I'm Carly Sunae.
