Hi, I'm Denise Druce with LIVESTRONG.com. Let's talk about some exercises that will help you shrink your waist. We'll look at ways that you can hold your waist in when you are sitting, standing, lying down. We'll also talk about cardio exercise. One of the best ways to shrink your waist is to teach your core muscles to hold themselves in. So whenever you think about it, pull your navel to your spine and then lift up through the crown of the head and bring all of the muscles in so you are using the front, the sides and the back. You can do this when you are sitting or you can do it when you are lying down. You can find that neutral spine and then pull your navel to your spine and pull all of the muscles in around the middle and hold them. You might want to hold for a count of eight or ten, do that as often as you think about it and it will help you shrink your waist. It's important to remember that in order to lose weight you need a combination of cardio activity like running, walking, cycling, also a good clean healthy diet. But to do exercises that strengthen the core, the best core exercise you can do is the good old fashioned bicycle. So you're going to lay on your back, bring your fingertips behind your head and bring your knees up over your hips and then you can start slowly bringing one elbow toward the opposite knee. You want to make sure to keep your abdominals in tight and if you want to make this a little more challenging, take both of your legs out away from you a little bit farther and go faster.
