Walking and cycling are both great ways to lose weight and to strengthen your core. But in both activities you have to make sure to think about using the muscles of your core. So when you are walking you can always think about pulling your navel to your spine and being really flat in the front. Lifting the muscles of the pelvic floor and imagine that you have a band of muscles wrapped around you. So there's this feeling of pulling everything in with every step you take. So that strong engaged core actually helps you when you are walking be safer and more effective. Same thing happens on a bicycle. So when you are sitting on a bike seat you're hinging forward from the hips. Your spine is nice and long but you are engaging the muscles the same way. You are lifting the pelvic floor. You are pulling your navel to your spine. And you are wrapping that band of muscle all the way around your core to actually burn more calories because you are using more muscles.
