Hi, I'm Natalie Jill. Let's talk about turkey bacon versus low sodium regular bacon. What's the difference and which one should you pick? It doesn't matter, turkey bacon although because it's turkey some people think it's healthier, lower in sodium, that's not necessarily the case. Low sodium is always a good call with bacon because it's typically processed and it's a lot of extra sodium so looking for low sodium is a good thing to do. However, turkey versus regular is not as big of a difference as you would imagine. What you should look at instead is how the bacon is processed. Is it uncured or cured and is there most importantly, nitrates or chemicals added to it? So typcially you'll want to look for no nitrates added and the least amount of ingredients as possible and also look for that low sodium on the label. So, just because it's turkey bacon doesn't mean it's healthier for you. What matters is looking at the sodium quantity, how much sodium is in it and is there anything added to the bacon like nitrates?
