Hi, my name is Stella Metsovas, and today we're going to talk about how well fats digest with starches. Now there's so much controversy behind food combining, is it really necessary? Should I be worried about having this food or that food? My answer is somewhat, not to the point where you are going to go crazy over thinking can I have fruit with this carbohydrate or this protein. The key is you have to pick foods that are clean and healthy and all that other stuff, your digestive system will take care of. So let's look at the way you digest carbohydrates and fats. Carbohydrates are actually digested in the small intestine, whereas fats are digested a little differently. They require bile to break down the fat and are largely digested in the stomach. So if you have any bloating issues, if you find that when you have fat with any food for that matter, especially a carbohydrate, know that fat requires bile to break it down and if you feel bloated, try to reduce the amount of fat and look at your source of carbohydrate. The best sources of carbohydrate to have with a fat are going to be plant-based carbohydrates because plant-based carbohydrates are a little easier to digest than wheat or gluten foods that a lot of people have sensitivity to these days. So next time you are wondering if fats digest well with carbohydrates, look to your digestive system for the answer and that is if you feel bloated or anything that is not optimal for that matter, reduce the amount of fat and look at the source of carbohydrate and that will be your answer.
