Hi, I'm Teresa and welcome to my fresh kitchen. Today, I want to tell you about some healthy food for the liver, one in particular is almonds and let me tell you why. Your liver is your main detoxifying engine for your body. It's responsible for getting all the gunk out. So when you are thinking about taking care of your liver, you really want to put high quality food in there to make its job easier. So some things you really want to look for with food is definitely fiber. Fiber is kind of like the trash man for your body so when your liver is working to detoxify, it takes stuff out, puts it in your digestive system. If there's enough fiber there, fiber will take it right out, just like the trash men take out your trash at night. If your liver goes through all the work to get those toxins out and there's not enough fiber in your diet, then it dumps right back in your bloodstream and your liver has to deal with it all over again, just like if the trash man delivered your trash right back to your front door. It's a lot of unnecessary work. Another thing you want to really look for is healthy proteins, lean proteins that are easy to digest like nuts and beans and fish and also you want to make sure you get plenty of heart healthy fat. So all of those reasons together are really why almonds are a great food for your liver because a serving of almonds is definitely full of heart healthy monounsaturated fats. It's also a plant based good source of protein and they are also full of vitamins and minerals and you get a couple of grams of fiber for every serving too.
