Hi, I'm Teresa and welcome to my Fresh Kitchen. Today, I wanted to give you a great way to explain amino acids to kids. Metabolism, nutrition, these are sciences. Some kids will naturally have an interest, and others won't, but, the good news is if you're trying to explain protein, or amino acids to your children, they are the building blocks of every cell in your body, just like Lego's are the building blocks of whatever intricate toy that your child's trying to build. There are 22 total amino acids. Nine of them are essential, that means you have to consume them in your diet. So, the next time you're trying to convince your child that they need to finish their meat, or their fish, or their tofu or their beans, it would be just like if they didn't have the wheels to their favorite Lego set. Your body won't run without the right amount of protein, just like the Lego's and the fire truck won't go without their wheels.
