Hi, I'm Juliet Kaska and this is post race hip flexor stretches. Your hip flexors are a group of muscles located in your thigh just below your hip. They are responsible for flexing the hip as well as bringing the knee up towards the hip. In other words you use them every step of the way during your race. If they are tight, you are going to end up slowing down. If you spend the time after your race stretching them, you'll most likely have a better time the next day. Our first stretch for our hip flexors, post race, is going to be a kneeling hip flexor stretch and you might want to use a towel or a pad to support your knee so place that towel underneath of your left knee and then step your right foot forward and lunge your hips forward, bringing the knee in line with the second toe but not past the toes. Once you have your stability, you can bring your arms up overhead and you can also do a little side bend. So our next post exercise stretch for hip flexors, step into a lunge, bring the right foot forward and the left leg back and sink down into that right leg, keeping the knee tracking over the heel until you feel the stretch in the front of the left hip which is your hip flexors. Keep passing back into your left heel and once you find this stretch with the tailbone tucked and the abs drawn in, then reach your left arm up overhead and do a lateral bend which will increase the line of the stretch all the way up and down into your hip flexor.
