I'm Diane Hoch, and this is how to make any protein shake using tips. As a meal replacement or an addition to your diet, the basis for a great protein shake is the protein powder you use. Whether you're in the mood for green, purple or red, we have some tips on how to make any great protein shake. I start with a good quality almond milk and I use unsweetened almond milk. I like to sweeten it myself; I don't need any sweeteners that I'm not quite sure what they are. And here I'm using a protein powder. This protein powder is a vegan protein powder and that's the kind that I preferred to use. As a gluten and dairy-free chef, I like a gluten and dairy-free protein powder and that works well for me. Just ask at the local health food store. This is almond butter and almond butter is a great source of added protein and the cool thing about it too is that you're adding the fiber as well and I love getting as whole food as you possibly can with your recipes. A nice frozen banana, and bananas being frozen is great. Don't throw out those bananas that have the brownness on the skin, just peel them, put them right into the freezer and they're great for smoothies. A little vanilla adds sweetness; so, we're just going to put a nice little teaspoon of vanilla in there. Now, this is my wonderful trick. So, I love greens and kale is great in smoothies. I have a Vitamix blender here that I'm using; so, it's really great that I have the ability to put kale in here as a smoothie. So, this is the first step; if you want a green one, we're going to show you how to make it green. Yum! Look at that green, my favorite color really. So, this is a nice green smoothie. Now, of course, I have the Vitamix so you're blending it up. If you want it red, we can do strawberries; if you want it purple, we can do blueberries. And I'm in a bit of a purple mood, so let's choose the blueberries today, shall we? So, check this out. Talk about hiding greens in someone, somebody's diet, if someone's a little green-phobic, you know, great idea. Uh-oh, let's see. Great! You know what, maybe we'll try to add some red too. Look at that; see what we got! Ah, let's just throw all that in. Fruits are so good for you too. Hmm, look great. The basis for a great protein shake is the protein powder that you use; but also as protein shakes have gained a lot of popularity, you realize just how nutrient-dense you can make it by adding in a lot of other super foods and whole foods.
