I'm Diane Hoch, and this is how to keep strawberries after you buy them. Strawberries happen to be one of the more delicate fruits but there are ways to keep them fresh after you buy them. How we store, wash and cut them are all important. One of the most important things when you get home, empty the container into a colander and inspect them because you want to make sure that there aren't any strawberries with mold on them. Mold will actually infect the rest of the container and you'll be sorry that you did that. Really good idea to inspect them. Don't wash the strawberries until you are ready to eat them. So if you are not ready to eat them, put them on back into your container and store them in the refrigerator. If you are ready to eat them, wash them off under water, under cold water. We take off the top portion and then with a pairing knife, just go ahead and cut around the edges of the top part that are white and take the root out and then cut it up into pieces how you want, in half or quarters is just fine, put it on a beautiful platter and then you are ready to eat them. Yum, delicious strawberries. Strawberries are a fantastic little super food, full of antioxidants and anti-age fighting properties. So take some little care of them when you get them home to keep them fresh and delicious.
