I'm Diane Hoch, and this is sugar reacting with trace minerals in food. Sugar wreaks havoc on our bodies and is linked to Type II diabetes, the obesity epidemic and a host of other illnesses. The question of how sugar reacts with trace minerals in foods leads us to look further into it. If you eat a standard American diet, SAD, then you have a lot of issues with sugar because you are consuming white flour, white sugars and processed foods. Now in order to digest this, in order for your body to metabolize the glucose it uses up its chromium reserves. So therefore, you are depleting your chromium levels in your body. But really look at what we're talking about. Do we want to supplement with chromium? Do we want to eat foods rich in chromium? That's only one thing that you are substituting. What you are doing by adding sugar into your body is depleting your body not only of chromium but you are depleting your body of the richness you can get from eating whole foods, real foods, a rainbow of colors that has fiber, phytonutrients, vitamins, minerals and all the foods we need to stay well and balanced. All my beautiful books here from wonderful physicians and researchers looking into all these topics lead me to believe one thing, a diet rich in whole foods and real foods will keep you healthy.
