Hi, I'm Alfonso, the Angry Trainer, Moretti, and today we're gonna be talking about the overhead press for shoulder development. The overhead press is a fantastic exercise to not only develop the muscles of the shoulder, but it's also a functional exercise, because in reality, in real life, day to day life, we need to be able to take things from a chest level and put them up over our head. But there's some things that we want to watch out for. So let's talk about the technique. The first thing you wanna do with the overhead barbell press is get your hands on the bar in the right spot. So we're gonna step into the bar, we're gonna have our hands just outside of our shoulders, that's a reference point for you it may be in a little bit, could be out a little bit. From here we're gonna press straight up, lock out, and we're going to elevate our shoulders up. We don't want our hips back behind us here, we want our glutes tucked underneath, nice and tight with our abs flexed, then we want to press the bar over our head, make a straight line, so the hands, the shoulders, the hips, the ankles, knees, all lined up. Big breath in, straight up over your head, and as you get to the top here it's an active shoulder. This is not the end, this is the end. If this 45 pound bar is too heavy for you, grab a PVC pipe, grab a broom stick, practice, practice and more practice before you pick up a bar with weight on it.
