Hi, this is Kiya Knight, exercise scientist and creator of WEightless Worldwide, the evolution of mind, body fitness. And today, I want to teach you how to flex your lats. Your lats are the biggest muscles in your upper extremity and the only muscle that connects the shoulder to the hips. So, really important for fluid, powerful movement in daily living. And most often times, we don't have a real strong mind to muscle connection with your lats. We're more comfortable using our shoulders and our biceps to kind of muscle our way through life. The moment we add lat activation to our workout, we increase our power and our strength an dour stability, our coordination and our agility. So, it's an amazing technique to add to your current workout program. So, the lats are located right here under the armpit, they start in the arm, and they run all the way down to your hips. So, it's this whole length of your body and they wrap around the back. Try to flex your lats and isolate the lats when you flex. If you find it hard to isolate the lats, if you can't find that contraction, here's a little tip. Tale your arms and cross them in front of your body, lightly rest your fingers on your arms. And now, press into your arms with your fingertips. And notice how your lats just naturally start to activate. This is because you're grounding with your upper body. So, you can also do this by placing your hands on a countertop or holding onto a bar or a pole, or a weight bar. So, remember your lats are your biggest muscle in y our back, they're located right here under your armpit. And by doing just a little daily activation of the lats. You're going to bring a lot more power and stability into your workout and you're going to notice a huge confidence boost.
