Hi, I'm Marcos Avellan. Is the UFC more violent than other sports? A lot of people worry about the safety record of MMA, and I'm gonna give you my opinion right now. Fighting is violent. I mean you could interchange the words fighting and violence. So by definition, mixed martial arts is the most violent sport out there. But that being said, it's not the most dangerous. The UFC and mixed martial arts as a whole has a very good safety track record when compared to other sports like boxing and football. What makes it safer than boxing is that there's no ten count, so once you get dropped, usually the fight gets stopped. Your opponent comes, throws a few punches, fights over. You know, they're not gonna count you ten when you're standing there kind of concussed and then the person hits you again. And two, the culture in mixed martial arts makes it very easy to give up. When you tap out from strikes, or you tap out to submission in the sport, it's accepted and it moves on, whereas in boxing, there is no culture of giving up. Matter of fact, if you give up early, you can be labeled a quitter for the rest of your career. Just think of, you know, Duran in his no mas fight. So for these reasons, the mixed martial arts is violent, but a safe sport.
