I'm Jackie Arnett and this is what is your basal caloric requirement? The first step to a healthy body is knowing the number of calories you need to get from the food we eat everyday. Your basal caloric requirement is the equation that tells you that. What it does is it calculates the most basic and essential number of calories you need to do your cellular functions. Like having your heart beating, breathing and maintaining body temperature. It factors a lot of different elements like your age, gender, the environmental temperature that you're in. As well as your weight and height. By factoring all this in you get this personalized customized number of the calories you need every day. And what you should do with those calories. So for example, lets just say your basal caloric requirement is 1100. We should aim to do is have an idea of where we can maintain the current weight. If it's a good weight. Or how to lose weight safely so that you are not impeding on the basal caloric requirement you have and need every day. So for example you can pick nutrient dense foods so you get calories but you also get the nutrients for the calories. So you are not consuming too many calories. So fruits and vegetables instead of cookies, cakes which don't give you nutrients but they certainly give you calories. So you want to make sure you're getting the calories and the nutrients you need to meet your basal caloric requirement.
