Hey, everybody. I'm chef Mareya,The Fit Foodie. And today I want to talk to you about increasing caloric intake for children. Now most of the time we want to dial back our calories. But with children and their quick growth spurts sometimes keeping up with their calories and their energy needs can be challenging. Especially if their appetites aren't there. So one of my tricks that I love is creating a really high quality nutrient dense shake. Now to add calories with cookies, and cakes, and processed foods, and empty calories is not really the way to go. I like to keep it really nutritionally charged. So I've already got a cup and a half of coconut milk. Now that's a great source of protein, good quality fats. And those vitamins and minerals that they need. I also have a scoop and a half of a good quality protein powder that's also full of benefit like probiotics, enzymes, greens and other beneficial nutrients. And then I have two tablespoons of sun butter. Which is really high in calories but good quality calories. Now you can substitute that for peanut butter or almond butter. I opted for sun butter because it's allergen free. And then I'll add a whole banana which I would normally only add half. And then a cup of non-fat Greek yogurt. And some ice. Blend it up and enjoy it really cold. Now you can also add other fruits like strawberries, just blend it to your taste. Great way to get the calories in there but keep the nutrition sound. Hope you'll try this tip and I'd love to hear your favorite combination.
