Hi, I'm Cinthia Torres. I'm going to show you the traditional sequence of Indian Hatha Yoga. There are a few important elements to a Hatha Yoga class and I'm going to show you what they are. The first one is a centering practice. Every Hatha Yoga class will begin with a centering practice, typically in cross-legged. And the purpose of this is to focus your mind in the present moment. The next element is breathing awareness. Each pose is coordinated by the breath, whether it's an active pose or relaxation pose. The next part is an asana practice or the physical poses. You start by warming up the body through Sun Salutations, a series of poses linked by the breath. After that warm up, you move into different poses, from sitting poses, standing poses, inversions and arm balances. And finally, the relaxation. Each Hatha Yoga class will end with a relaxation where you allow your body to absorb all the benefits of the practice. It's called Shavasana or Corpse pose, where you lie down on your back, extending your legs out in front of you and your arms by your sides.
