Hi, I'm Traci Macnamara. Today, we're going to look at the question how do I gather proper equipment for skiing because it's important to be prepared when you go out for a safe and fun day on the slopes. The first and the most important things you need to gather when you are going skiing, your ski gear. These three items include your boots, your skis and your poles. Make sure that you have boots that are specific for the type of skiing that you are doing. You want skis of the correct length and that also match your skiing ability and you want your poles to be the correct length. The next thing you need to gather is your clothing for skiing. Think of clothing in three layers, your base layers, your mid layers and your outer layer. Your base layer is the type of clothing that you wear closest to your skin. It's usually a thin layer that you wear underneath your ski pants and on top and underneath your jacket as well. Your mid layer is your insulating layer. It can be something that you wear on your top like a vest, a sweater, a turtleneck or another lightweight item that will also add warmth. And your outer layer for skiing will be both your ski pants and your ski jacket. These items need to be weatherproof and durable so that they help you stay warm and keep the wind and snow and rain out. You need to also father several different accessories, specific for skiing. Think from your feet to your head, gather your socks, get socks that are specific for skiing. You also want either mittens or gloves on your hands. Gloves will usually give you more dexterity but mittens will help keep your fingers warm. You also want to have goggles or sunglasses depending on the conditions and you will want to wear a helmet. Also on your face you'll want to have some sort of sunscreen or lip balm.
