Hi. I'm Marty Beene, and I'm here to talk about requirements for jogging. Before you start on a jogging program, it's important to know what you need and what you should do first. But, you don't want to go out the first day or the first week and have a major medical problem, so be sure to check with your doctor first. One thing that everyone needs is a good pair of shoes. Go to a specialty running shoe shop to get these. At a specialty running shoe shop, people can help you pick the right kind of shoe for your unique body. Many of these shops have sophisticated video equipment and computer software to identify features of your stride that will help pick the right shoe. Another important thing is to have both comfortable and functional running clothes. That may mean loose-fitting clothes for some people or tighter-fitting clothes for other people. You definitely want to have the right clothes for various weather conditions. If it's hot and sunny out, you'll want to wear something lightweight and light colored and maybe even a hat. If it's cold and rainy out, you should probably wear some tights and a long-sleeved shirt. If your hands have a tendency to feel cold, you can wear some lightweight gloves. If you're not sure how you're going to feel depending on the weather conditions, dress in layers so you can take off layers of clothing as you warm up. The rule of thumb is to wear whatever would be comfortable for you if the temperature were 20 degrees warmer than it actually is.
