Hi, this is Linda Mandelbaum. And today we're going to look at how best to hydrate your body before a game. It's very important to hydrate because that's actually one of the biggest challenges that an athlete can have is fatigue. And typically it can be dehydration. I like to suggest hydrating your body at least 16 hours prior to a game. And drinking water is a wonderful way to hydrate your body, definitely one of the best ways. But in addition, in addition to drinking water it's really great to incorporate some healthy fruits and vegetables. Because this way you are getting plenty of vitamins, and minerals, and fiber and that is also a wonderful way to hydrate your body. Some of my favorites, number one is celery. Celery is 96 percent water. It provides you with sodium and potassium which is so important. Plus many other supplements. My next one I recommend would be watermelon. Watermelon is 95 percent water. It's rich in vitamin C and it's a wonderful snack to help hydrate your body. Bell peppers 92 percent water and loaded with vitamin C. And then some cucumbers which is 95 percent water also with the sodium, and potassium, and calcium, magnesium. It's wonderful. You could add a little bit of the salt on top if you need a little flavor or dip it in some salsa. It's a wonderful snack.
