Hi, I'm Denise Druce. Let's talk about ways that stretching can help you loosen up your muscles. I've got three great stretches for you. One way to loosen up your muscles for stretching is called "Flow, Hold, Flow." So, the idea is to flow through some poses, then hold a stretch, and then flow again. So, an example might be inhale, lengthen, exhale, lower. Inhale, lengthen, exhale, lower. You can do that several times to each side, and then hold on one side. And, you'll find that that flowing sequence got your muscles warmer. And then, you can go back to the flowing again a few times, and then hold the pose on the second side. You can really do that with any of the stretches that you'd like to work on. Another technique for keeping heat in the body is a method of breathing called "Ujjayi Breath," and it's like you're breathing through a straw. So, it's going to sound like you're making the "H" sound with your lips closed together, like this. So, breathing through your nose and making that little extra sound helps you hold the heat in. The final thing I'd like to mention is, if you practice yoga in a heated room, your muscles will naturally be warmer. So, even if you take the temperature up a couple of degrees, your muscles will notice the difference.
