Hey, everybody. I'm chef Mareya, The Fit Foodie and the question of the day is, "Are boxed cereals healthy?" That is great question. Well, here's my tip for you when you're shopping for a boxed cereal to always look for. Pick it up and read the ingredient panel. And specifically I want you to look for three things. One, are there any artificial flavors or colors. If there are, would suggest that you steer clear. And those are going to look like red #3, green #2, yellow #40. If there is a number and a color just probably pass to the next one. So that's the first thing to look for. Number two is sugar. Boxed cereals can be lurking with tons and tons of sugar. And my rule of thumb is to try and pick a cereal that has 8 or fewer grams of sugar per serving. So 8 grams or fewer if you can do that. And the third thing is, does it have and fiber in it. Cereals are usually made from a combination of oats, millet, maybe some brown rice. But if you're finding that the cereal 2 grams or less of fiber per serving, probably want to pick a better option. I like to be in the 5 grams or more range. So try and opt for those healthier grain cereals if you can find them. So those are my three rules of thumb when you're picking out a boxed cereal. Artificial flavors and colors, steer clear. Sugar, more than 8 grams of sugar, steer clear. And then does it have a good amount of fiber in it. I'm chef Mareya, The Fit Foodie.
