Hi, I'm Kara Miller. I'm the Lifestylista, and today we're gonna be talking about vitamin B6 and men. As men age, their levels of testosterone decrease and their levels of estrogen increase. Studies have shown that this kind of thing leads to an increased in the levels of heart disease, prostate cancer, and also, gynecomastia, otherwise known as man boobs. Vitamin B6 is a nutrient that you must take from the food you eat. We can't make it by ourselves, in our bodies. This is particularly important because vitamin B6 deficiency, vitamin B6 is necessary for regulating our hormones within our body. If you are deficient in vitamin B6, then your liver cannot metabolize the excess estrogen, and you end up with an excess of estrogen. Now, vitamin B6, thank goodness, is available in a wide variety of foods such as chickpeas, also known as garbanzo beans, bananas, tuna, Brussels sprouts, white potatoes and sweet potatoes, avocados, sunflower seeds, and vitamin B complex. If you don't think you're getting enough vitamin B6 from your diet, you can always supplement. This is a really important nutrient. You need it to regulate those hormones.
