Hi, my name is Kari Pearce. I'm a personal trainer at the New York Health and Racquet Club. I'm gonna show you how to do a hand stand. It's important to be able to know how to do a hand stand because it's a critical skill on many of the apparatus's in gymnastics. It is important to master a head stand before doing a hand stand. In order to do a hand stand, start with both of your arms, straight up by your ears, and your favorite leg in front. You will then kick your back leg off of the ground, lever your hands to the floor. Once your hands hit the floor, you will then push your second leg off the ground. You will continue this motion until both of your legs are straight up in the air, your hands are on the ground, you're in a nice, vertical position. Make sure that you are pushing up, nice and tall. This will allow you to hold the hand stand. Once you are ready to come down, split your legs, put your favorite leg in front. You will then bring your legs slowly to the ground. Once your first leg hits the ground, you will then lift your hands off of the floor. You will lever up, your second leg will hit the ground, and your arms will come up by your ears. Before doing a hand stand, you can also perform a head stand. This will help you get used to the inverted position. You can also perform a hand stand against the wall. This will allow you to get familiar with the position, without having to worry about falling and hurting yourself.
