Hi, this is Jamie Glick. I'm here to talk about how to keep from doing a squat wrong. The squat is one of the most basic and effective body weight exercises you can do. They have to be done properly and safely. It's important to keep proper form when doing a squat so you don't hurt yourself. So you are going to make sure you have an eye on your head, your back, your hips, and your knees. And keep them all in proper alignment. To keep from doing the squat wrong it's a good idea to use a mirror. Most gyms have full mirror right around the squat rack. You want to look straight ahead. This helps keep the back nice and straight. Sometimes to keep your back straight it's a good idea to put a bar or dowel on your back. This is important because you don't want to round your back. When you are going into your squat you want most of the motion to come from your hip. This is called a hip hinge. Hinging at the hip or flexing at the hip will keep you from rounding your back. You don't want your knees to cave in toward each other. You want to keep them in equal distance apart all the way through the squat. And finally, you want to be able to see your toes while you are going through your squat. So you want to keep your knees behind the toes and be able to see your toes at all times.
