Hi, this is Jamie Glick. I'm here to talk about how to figure out how fast you walk. Many times, you do a walking workout, but you have no idea how to gauge your intensity, and I'm gonna show you some easy calculations and ways to figure that out. To figure out how fast you're walking requires a little bit of math, but it's really not that hard. The first thing you need to know is how far you've walked. This is best accomplished by walking on a track, which is measured. The inside of a track is a quarter mile long. Four times around that track is a mile. To figure out how fast you walk, first you wanna see how long it took you. If you walk around the track, let's say you walk around the track four times, that took you 14 minutes. Each time around the track is a quarter mile, since you did four laps, then you walked a mile. To calculate your speed, you take your total time, which is 14 minutes, divided by the time, the distance that you walked, which is one mile, that's a simple calculation, but it works for any distance and any time, and that will give you 14 minutes per mile. If you're looking for a different way, like miles per hour to say how fast you walked, and you can take your speed, there are 60 minutes in an hour, which is what you're looking at, take the minutes per mile speed that you just got, divide 60 by 14 minutes per mile, in this case, and you just walked four point three miles per hour.
