Hi, I'm Stella Metsovas, and today we're going to discuss common foods that have a dramatic effect on heart rhythm. Heart rhythm or cardiac rhythm is the beating of your heart. Cardiac dysrhythmia also known as arrhythmia or irregular heart beat is when the heart beat may be too fast, over 100 beats per minute or too slow, less than 60 beats per minute and may be regular or considered irregular. Did you know that diet and lifestyle could profoundly influence the healthy beating of your heart? Food additives, sugar, sodium, caffeine, alcohol are just a few that could really distort your healthy heart. In "The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition" published by Harvard School of Public Health, researchers found that circulating and dietary magnesium are inversely associate with cardiovascular disease risk which supports the need for clinical trials to evaluate the potential role of magnesium in the prevention of heart dysrhythmia. So the foods that dramatically effect heart rhythm are those that contain sodium because they throw off the delicate balance of magnesium and potassium levels along with other trace minerals. So what foods contain sodium you ask? Most processed, canned fast foods that I like to call designer or man made foods. Also try and stay clear of alcohol sugars because they are filled with not only alcohol sugars but sugar mixes in addition to caffeine and soft drinks.
