I'm Andrew Chaddick, personal trainer at The Houstonian Club and this is how to get toned lats. Now toning your lats will really make you look great in a tank top and allow your chest to look larger and your posture to improve. However, toning any part of the body really deals with nutrition so you've got to get that nutrition on point first. Once you have dialed that in, it's time to perform three of my favorite lat toning exercises. First up we're going to do a two position lat pull down, followed by a pull up and finish by pull ups from the ab straps. For the two position lat pull down, we're going to start in your regular lat pull down machine or like I'm doing here with the kinesis machine. You're going to have a handle in each hand, we're going to retract through the shoulders for the first motion and then aggressively pull down pinching back through your shoulder blades. We want to return to the start position using the same two positions, stretch up first and then relax through the shoulder blades to stretch the rest of the way. Once you've perfected this, it's time to move to the pull up. For the pull up, we want the hands just wider than shoulder width apart and we want an aggressive pull, pulling the chin above the bar, making sure that we pinch the shoulder blades back and don't depend just on the arms and shoulders. Finally for the pull up from the ab straps, we're going to slip the arms through the ab straps and supporting through the elbows, then we're going to stretch down as far as we can through the shoulders and aggressively pull up, pinching our shoulder blades back. These are the three best ways to tone your lats.
