Hi, I'm Eraldo Maglara, NSCA Certified Personal Trainer and these are plyometric exercises for running speed. In order to increase your speed or improve your running performance, it is highly recommended you include a plyometric type of exercise into your routine. Plyometric means something that you do very explosively, something that requires agility and quickness. The first one is called depth jump to standing long jump. So, basically what you want to do is stand on the top of a box, about 12 inches off the floor, and you want to jump off and as soon as you land, you want to quickly go into a long jump. It's a great exercise for your lower body. The second one you want to do is called the knee highs to sprint. So, basically what you're going to do is your knees are going to come way up as in a sprinting motion. So, you're actually sprinting, but you're kind of standing in place in one spot. And the third one is called plyometric lunges. Now, the benefits of lunges we know are great. But, this one is actually back and forth. So, you're actually lunging and you're stepping back and forth very quickly; another great exercise to improve your running speed.
