Hi, my name is Kari Pearce, and I'm a personal trainer at The New York Health and Racquet Club. This video is on how to do a hanging stretch for your upper spine. It's important to be able to know how to do this stretch because our spines are compressed on a daily basis. So it's good when you can expand it and stretch it out. Make sure that you are able to hold your body weight before attempting to do this stretch. In order to do this stretch you will need a bar. Once you find a bar that you will be able to hang from, grasp the bar nice and tightly. You want to make sure that you have a good firm grip on the bar. You will then start to relax your shoulders as well as your upper back and your lower back. This will get a nice stretch and reduce the compression that there is from each vertebra in your spine. If you are not able to support your full body, you can always leave your feet on the ground so that it's easier to do but you still get a good stretch.
