Hey, everybody. I'm chef Mareya, The Fit Foodie. And I wanted to share a couple of meat tenderizing tips with you. Now I've got some flank steak here. And if you don't tenderize it or marinate it sufficiently it may turn out a little tough. So I got two easy tips that I want to share with you today. So the first option is to tenderize it with a mallet. I have a handy little mallet here. It's kind of fun to use. Basically you just take your meat and tap it easily, not too hard so that you don't bruise the flesh with your mallet. Now I like to use a plastic bag just to protect the surface. Give it a little barrier between the meat and the mallet. And just tap on that just a few times on each side. Now the other option to tenderize is using citrus and onion. And now the citric acid in limes for example will help to break down the flesh of your meat. And there's also a chemical in onion, a naturally occurring chemical that when combined with a citric acid does a great job of tenderizing. So I'm going to combine some fresh lime juice with my onion and leave that on top of my cut of meat here for about two hours up to overnight. And you'll find just by combining those two ingredients it does wonders to breakdown that flesh and really help it cook nicely.
