Hi, my name is Peter with Expert Village. Today I'm going to talk to you about competitive cross country running. In this section I'm going to talk to you about cooling down as a competitive cross country runner. So the course may be 3 miles 5 miles or 7 miles. After you complete that run, you just don't want to stop and take a drink of water cause your tired. What you're actually going to want to do is do like a 2-5 minute cool down at a nice steady walk. The reason for that is because you just worked all the muscles in your body from head to toe at a tendency that you weren't use to doing before. As long as you do a nice cool down, then your muscles can come to a senses and your body is going to be more relaxed and your body won't go into shock. I'm sure many of you had seen people that all of a sudden you do a run and they pace out during a run or they pass out after a run. The reason why that happens is because their body went into shock and they just completely stop so you just want to go to a nice steady 2-5 minute relaxation and cool down. Then after that drink some water. Now as a competitive cross country runner, you never see anyone just completely stop once at the end of the race what they'll end up doing is they walk anywhere from a 1/2 mile to a mile or do a nice steady little jog. I'll show you real quick (running). You continue your walk for another 1/2 mile to a mile just to cool down.
