Hi! I'm Anna-Marie; I'm a Canadian Olympic Rower. I'm here on behalf of epertvillage.com. I'm going to talk a little bit about, in this clip, how to protect yourself on the rowing machine. There's a few things you should keep in mind to make sure that you have a safe workout. First of all, when you pick up the handle, there's usually a notice on the handle that says do not twist the chain. That means do not turn it over like that. Always keep it in a straight line. Always row with both hands on the chain; you don't want to ever be rowing with just one hand. You're just looking for an injury if you're doing that; both hands firmly on chain. If your hands get sweaty during the workout, either stop and wipe them or just take a break from the workout. You do not want to have your hands so sweaty that the handle flies out of your hands and flies into the cage up here. First of all, you can injury yourself as the handle snaps back and you can damage the machine. A couple of other pointers for when you're setting up on your machine. Sometimes, as you can see on the back of this machine, I have a little piece of carpet underneath the back leg of the machine. That will help the machine from sliding across the floor. Especially, if it's linoleum floor like this, which can be slippery. The carpet can help keep the machine in one place. Another option to help keep the machine in one place is if you look under the front leg of the machine, there's a couple of weights stacked on the bottom of that. Sometimes that weight will help stop the machine from jumping forward as you're pulling very hard. With proper technique, the machine shouldn't move from it's place. It should stay on the ground and you're rowing, but if you get really into your workout and you're having a really peace, you never know what can happen. Sometimes, you just apply too much power too quickly, and the machine may start to jump. Keep those things in mind as you're working out, to keep at a very safe effective workout.
