ALICE MERRITT: Now I'm going to talk to you about the scan diet. The scan diet is actually a meal plan based on having soy-based meal replacements. What you end up doing is you have about 5 soy based meal replacements a day and then you can add in fruits and vegetables throughout the day as part of snacks whenever you maybe feel a little bit hungry. This diet is somewhat of a calorie restriction and it's only about 1200 calories per day. It's very expensive at the cost of about $300 a month. And so, it's important when you're thinking about reviewing a diet plan is to ask yourself if this is something that you can follow for the rest of your life. Because we know that when you go on diets and you loose weight and then you go off diets, you often regain the weight plus more. Plus, if you're restrictive with your intake, if you're eating a lot of meal replacements and not in eating foods that you enjoy, you tend to have a higher risk of binging or overeating later in the day. If you have questions about a diet or if you're trying to figure out a plan that works well for you, it's best to consult a registered dietician. These are some healthy things about the scan diet.
