I used the Hacker's Diet for several years in conjunction with a regular exercise regimen. I saw good results, but I became frustrated with the spreadsheet that it used. The formula in the spreadsheet would lag what was really happening. It was frustrating to see in hindsight that I had been gaining weight for 4-6 days before it showed on on the daily excess value of the spreadsheet.

I came up with my own smoothing formula that resulted in less lag and used that for my weight charts. After friends and family starting asking me to make weight charts for them too, it became fairly time consuming. I recently put together a Google app engine site that is free for anyone to use and employs my improved formula for generating charts and giving daily calorie intake feedback.

It's been very helpful to me and if it helps other people as well, then more's the better: http://www.myweightracker.com/history

ALCIE MERRITT: Now I am going to talk to you about The Hacker's Diet. This diet plan was developed by a computer guru, hence the name Hacker's Diet. And basically, he wrote a book on a wide variety of healthy choices to lower your calorie intake. This diet is based on creating a calorie deficit in order to produce weight loss. It is actually kind of a good book to read because he does go through a lot of behavior modifications. He also has a lot of computer savvy tools where you can track your weight loss and track your calorie intake. And I do like that they talk a lot about behavior modifications and lifestyle changes. Important things to remember about this diet is you do not want to reduce your intake too low because then that increases your risk of binging and over eating later on in the day. And it is important to consider when you are thinking about a diet as a lifestyle change. So ask yourself that this is something that you can follow for the rest of your life. Because a lot of study show people that go on diets and lose weight then go off diets often regain the weight and plus more. So it is always important in evaluating a diet and seeing if it fits in with your lifestyle. If you want good solid diet advice and you are trying to figure out a good plan for you, it is always a good idea to consult a registered dietician. These are some healthy tips for the hacker's diet.
