ANGIE SCHNEIDER: Hi. I am Angie with the Youth Hockey Foundation of Austin, and today we are going to show you how to take a slap shot. Let us go to Jim so he can demonstrate while I describe what he is doing. With the slapshot, the puck is going to be on the inside of your front foot. The most important element of the slap shot is keeping your knees bent and transferring your weight from your back leg to your front leg while twisting your torso forward. You will be hitting the puck right behind it on the ice which causes your stick to flex and spring back, snapping the puck into the net. You will follow through to your target. Let us watch Jim do a demonstration. Notice how he is transferring his weight from the back leg to the front leg following through with his target. The speed that you can hit a slapshot makes it the least accurate of all the shots but it is a favorite among many. That is how to take a slapshot.
